I got my new HLN5065WX yesterday and got it setup and it rocks! I was curious about which version I have as I don't see the W1 listed anywhere.

In the Service Menu is says v3.14

Manufactured March 2004

Is this the W1 or are they still making the older W series?

You can do one of a couple of things to find out:

1) Refer to your warranty card. Your model number should already be listed, designating it a W1 or a standard HLN model.

2) Take a look at your remote. The newer W1 models have a different looking remote than the original HLN series.

3) Look at the back of your TV and you will/should find a placard that gives you the spec's of you TV. Model number, assembly date etc.

Hope this helped!

Mine had a DOM of 3-2004 also and was a NON W1.

New remote has square buttons instead of round and more of them.

Also on side of box is a white label with UPC code and in large letters

HLN5065W, under this if a W1 will be in smaller letters HLN5065W1.

Component inputs will all be the same also.

Your set is not a "W1" based on your firmware number. The "W1" sets have firmware version 1017 in all the reports I've read here.

It's not the most useful clue because you have to know the secret code to find it.

I think the firmware version along with bulb hours should be right out in the user menu.
