I've read most of the posts related to firmware 211 vs. 214. I have an HLN507W that I purchased this summer with unfortunately firmware 211. Was this model ever advertised as having video inputs that permits the use of advanced system remote controllers designed for one-touch command functions?

The HLN567W was clearly advertised as such but what about the HLN507W? Is the only remedy for those that purchased the HLN507W to purchase "the $200 Samsung Upgrade" in order to get the discrete codes?

Thank you.

Thank you.
The upgrade offer closed July 31 and I haven't heard anything about a new offer. No HLN set was advertised to have discrete commands except the HLN467 and HLN567. Many of them do because firmware 214 or later is installed in the newest sets and if repairs require that board to be changed those repaired sets have it too. Bad timing. :(

I just received a HLN507W with the 302 firmware (T-B3K6101-302, release time Jul 12 2003 08:28:07). Does it have discrete command codes? Does every 302 set have 'em?

Which commands have discrete command codes?

Is a Pronto the only way to generate the codes (maybe for learning by another remote)?

Any firmware version higher than 214 has discrete commands. So, yes you have them.

There is a command for power on, power off, and one for each input connection.

I don't have a programmable remote so I can't answer questions about them.

Good luck.

check out remotecentral.com for info on programming discrete codes. I'm a new poster so I can't post URL's yet. :(

Try a forums search there for "discrete" under the RM-AV3000 forum. The topic is called "Discrete Codes" started by Wess94.

The links in that thread direct you towards info on discrete codes.

Hope it helps. I'm still fairly new to programming discrete codes, but I think I have it understood for the most part.

No, there are at least two other methods that will work. The MX-500 and 700 from Home Theater Master are PC programmable, and there is software that will accept discretes to use with them.

The other method (if you don't own those two), is to buy an inexpensive JP1 capable remote (One for All or Radio Shack), and a JP1 cable. You connect to your PC's parallel port and use free software to teach the JP1 remote the Samsung discretes. Finally, you use the JP1 remote to teach whatever learning remote you may have.

If you already are happy with a remote for home theater, the JP1 route is cheapest.
