Scotty Bowman was on Detroit radio today talking about the lockout etc.....Then brought up how HD can save and even attract more fans. Said hockey is the most difficult game to watch on TV but HD makes it much easier to view and HD is a perfect match to keep up with the speed of the game.

Scotty for commish!!!!, Bettman go back to the NBA!!!

Scotty = Hockey God

Wish I could be watching some hockey on my new TV. Was there any hockey HD last season?

Yea, I agree totally with what Bowman said and especially your last line :)

Too bad there will probably not be any hockey at all this season or at the very earliest January :(

Agreed, HDNet was the best presentation. ESPN and ABC did a few games in HD, but not many.

My cable company picked up the Comcast Sportsnet HD feed after last season ended. Figures... this woulda been my first full year w/the home team in HD.

Same I got cablevision and get three teams in HD!!!!!! Rangers games looked awesome in HD.

And the best part about this season was Center Ice was going to have a stat channel for the package where you could check out live games stats and scores.

Having watched alot of hockey in-person and on TV, I think it would be much "easier to follow" for this reason...

the widescreen presentation would give you a more panoramic view of the ice surface, so you could see things develop around the puckhandler. with Fox/ESPN-style SUPERZOOM broadcasts, you only see a guy with a puck, and miss 80+% of the actual "game of hockey".

Also the hi-res would allow the small puck to be more clear and distinct, instead of only having a few pixels draw it as it travels at 80mph.

I loved and truely miss HDNet NHL games. I remember one game with Boston last year that aboslutely made my jaw drop. I have had HD for like 3+ years and the picture abosolutely floored me.

Scotty may be retired, but he certainly remain in tune with what it takes to succeed. The NHL league and players should listen to his every word.

While I no longer watch much HDNet, in the "early days" of HDTV I always made it a point to watch the Dallas Stars games that were broadcast (before blackouts and when they got a lot of games--probably because of being local to Cuban, etc.). I still think the BEST sports TV I've ever seen are those Hi-Def Stars games when they turned off the announcers for the "sounds of the game" so it felt like you were in the rink!

The only reason I'm holding on to my cable provider (Cablevision LI) is in hopes that the season resumes soon. They carry all Isles, Rangers, and Devils home games in HD. Its framed for SD, but it still looks fantastic.

(add another vote to Bowman for comish)

The league has told the owners they can book their rinks for up to 45 days out. So if a deal was reached on Christmas day, that would put them out to 2/8/05 for a start date. It's been commonly proposed that for a season to occur this year, they have to start playing in January, which means a deal will have to be reached by 12/17.

I got my HD setup to watch the NHL on HDNet. It's been frustrating the last couple years having the local (Avs) games blacked out on HDNet but not having any local channel produce the games in HD. But what I saw on HDNet in the good old days was wonderful. I second the earlier comment about "Sights & Sounds" That was awesome.

Are you suggesting that god is getting annoyed with the absence of hockey? ;) :D

Puck is easier to see, thus follow the action.
