Nigel, you do realize that the Home Depot drop cloth that you refer to is limited by the huge seam that runs I believe horizontally. It is sewn into the canvas material, thus requiring a coat or two of paint. I know because I tried going that route. Let me tell you that it requires a great deal of patience.

My Home Depot does not carry this particular drop cloth. Would anyone be willing to take a paypal payment for buying and shipping a couple of these guys to me? I probably only need one but there's always the "Ooops" factor.

PS In Maryland if anyone has found this within an hour's drive of Columbia (near Baltimore). I checked the Columbia, College Park and Gaithersburg ones.

As I said, the maximum standard size in the textile industry is a 54" wide roll and manufacturing size. This stuff is intended for 'human body fabric covering' manufacturing, hence the maximum 54" roll design system. 60" design increases the manufacturing runs considrably. The equipment for such cannot really go beyond that size.


Even the equipment and such for designing the machines for the creation of the fabrics, are limited to being for the manufacture of machinery that has this 54" sizing situtation.


Yes, I have looked directly into it, and made the right enqires with the right people. Anything else than the 54" sizing gets BRUTALLY expensive... going from 54" to 60" equals twice the costing structure, for instance.

I think I might just get a da-lite with a little more gain. I got my Plus thumperized and a little more gain might be good.

As I note on another thread, I have sourced 240cm (94") 3-pass vinyl at a fabric chainstore here in Australia. There are no seams. Price is A$27 per linear metre or A$20 if you don't mind the first 10cm being taken up with a liner for curtain hooks - that still leaves 230cm usable.


If this is impossible to get in the US I would be willing to buy and ship (using PayPal) - you can halve the $ prices to convert to US$ then add for airmail or whatever, my guess would be about US$15-US$20 per linear metre.


I'm not offering this as a commercial venture (the stuff is hard to find and goes out of stock periodically BTW) but as a favour to users of this group. E-mail me if interested - don't post to the group.


I have staple-gunned this stuff straight to my drywall and now my builder-friend is preparing some wood-veneer framing for me. I've got to say that it looks quite alright to me - about 1.0 gain to my untrained eye.

Try to do the impossible, try to weasel the name of the manufacturer out of the fabric people.


Start by telling them the truth. That yo have few friends who want to buy it in the states,and hate the idea of the incredibly high shipping costs ruining their attempt at getting a bargain. Maybe they will tell you, maybe they will not.

Could it be this screen fabric ? http://www.solarfective.com/ They have 72 to 96 inches wide, the price for the fabric 72 inches is 27 $ can. a yard, but they charge a lot for sending the product to you ... for 4 yards (128 for the fabric) the price go up to more then 275.00 http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/frown.gif ( They are located in Toronto.
