I am in the first phase of building my home theater/media room. This phase of my build will consist of a 5k budget, labor, material for 3 walls and floor, room is 17x17x9. Here is what I would like to accomplish.

Soundproof the room to where it will not bother others in the home. I understand 100% soundproofing is very difficult to accomplish, 75%+ is the goal. What is nice about this room is 3 of the 4 walls are exterior, the negative is its on the second floor of my home so the floor will need some serious dampening. The one interior wall I plan to add a scratch coat, concrete then brick over the current drywall as a means of sound proofing.

As far as the floor I am still researching and open to ideas. What are the thoughts on the first phase of my plan any advice is greatly appreciated.

I am in the same boat with a second floor room for a theater. John over at the Soundproofing Company has been a huge help in the area and is just a phone call/email away to help you through it. Here is a link from their site on floor soundproofing: How to Soundproof Floor - Soundproofing Company

I am doing the very bottom diagram, but with an extra layer of subfloor on top of the existing subfloor before the Serenity Mat since I cannot easily do Clips and Channel and DD + GG on the ceiling below.

I didn't get a chance to utilize it, I was about to pull the trigger and then we ended up getting news of a second child, so the was to be theatre room turned into a playroom with a projector so didn't do any soundproofing in it to get it done before baby's arrival.
