I am in the process of purchasing a house with a very, very nice home theater room. All prewired and professionally setup. He used top of the line equipment (Runco and Revel speakers) and is taking all the equipment with him (since I cant afford what he is asking).

Im on a major budget to get speakers and projectors for this setup but limited to about $3000-$4000 for the setup.

Can anyone suggest a good:

1. Projector

2. speakers (center, front-standing, rear-top hanging)

3. Receiver or anything else I need.

Thank you.

you can look for a mid level receiver, like the pionneer 1019 or 919, depending on your needs, they run about 400$ (about 500-600$ here in canada)

the speakers, well they would depend on a number of factors

what use will they be for? movies, gaming, music etc...

the room size is also important to consider

look around there are alot of brand threads, and they are full of great information

i personnally went with Energy, and i love the sound and stylings, and they fit my budget too

basically the more info you can give, the better we can help you out

Thank you for the reply. The room will mostly be used for watching movies and cable TV. I would also like sometimes to go in the room and listen to music.

Its already prewired for 1 center, 2 loudspeaker fronts, and 2 top rears. All wires run into a closet. It will have a 100" drop down screen.

The room is 18 x 13. The longer side is where the screen will be facing. There will be 4 seating x 2, for a total of 8 seats.

I currently have an old Sony ES receiver (I think about 8 yrs old) Its does have 5.1 Do you think this is good enough or has the recieve technology justify an upgrade?

i think you'll be wanting hdmi connections, at the very least, so you can enjoy the best sound and picture

if your ht components dont use hdmi though, the sony might do the trick

the receiver forum might be better able to help you out, more so if you can give them the model # of your sony, and your specific needs

im not all that good in receivers, and speakers either actually, im just starting out, just thought i'd try to drop helpful hints in a thread no one had answered yet!

your room is not too big, i think you could definately look at the energy offerings

audio advisor as a set of c-330 energy speakers, 2 c-300 floorstanders, 2 c-100 for surrounds, a cc-50 center, the s10.3 sub and even wire, and that would definately fit your budget

from what i gather your better off investing in better speakers, than a premium receiver

The Sony is old - and most Sonys don't cut it power wise. Looks like a good time to upgrade to a newer AVR. Are you open to buying a refurbished receiver? You can get some great deals - they are mostly just last year's models - and there haven't been any leaps and bounds in audio/video that would make the newest models a 'gotta have'.

There are a lot of decent speaker packages that will fit in that budget - you'll need a good sub. But first you need to decide whether you want a 5.1 or 7.1 setup.

1. I dont mind a refurb reciever...any suggestions?

2. I believe the room is setup as 2 fronts, 1 center, and 2 rears and I dont want to rewire the setup, so it would be 5.1. What are the best brand speaker package that most people are going with?

The Onkyo SR805S (Silver) is a nice receiver. As is the Onkyo SR806 . Both are refurbished. The 805 has (arguably) the better amp section.

Also a nice receiver is the
Harman Kardon 354 . You might be able to get it for less from Harman Audio on ebay- look
here . The 254 can be had from Harman Audio's ebay store for much less - and the power difference between it and the 354 isn't as wide as the specs would seem to lead you to believe.

Marantz also makes some great AVRs. Look at the 5xxx and 6xxx series AVRs for better ones.

As for speakers - you'll need to be a bit more clear than "2. speakers (center, front-standing, rear-top hanging)". Do you mean you want tower fronts? Rear hanging? I've not heard that term before as pertaining to speakers. Are the surrounds in-wall or wall-hanging? By 'rear' I suppose you are referring to the surrounds - as that is where you'll find them in a 5.0 setup.

Thank you for so much info on the recievers..much appreciated.

For the speakers, a newbie as you can see.... the room is prewired already and it is for Tower Fronts and the rears are wall-hanging units. Ive seen soo many variance and prices...so a few suggestions would be great.
