regarding building a 10" tall 14' x 22' raised platform in the basement do i really have to remove the carpeting and underlay? Can i build the platform over it?,i am getting conflicting info from people i know.

If you search, there are a few threads on this.


The bottom line is that no, you don't have to remove the carpeting under teh riser. Doing so wouldn't hurt anything, and that carpet might get awfully compressed with a riser on it for several years. But if I already had the carpet down, I'd just put the riser on top.

I agree with Kevin, no need to remove the carpet. Just build the riser on top of the old carpet. The biggest concern would be ruining the carpet underneath of the riser by permanently compressing it, but you would ruin it tearing it out anyways. So, it's not that big of a concern.
