If you wanted to hook up a HD DVD player's 5.1 audio outs to your receivers' 5.1 audio ins but you also wanted to hook up a DVD Audio/SACD universal player to the same 5.1 audio ins on your receiver, could you use (6) y-cables to accomplish this? Do you think there would be any audio degradation?
Just thinking about doing this and how it would work out...
I am using a cheap component switcher from Phillips that I got on Ebay. It works because it also switches the L, R, and composite with the component ... therefore it is 6 channels of switching. I have SACD, DVD-A, HD-DVD, and soo Blu-Ray into one analog input. It will work till My Meridian gets an HDMI input.
I am also using a relatively cheap switcher (the Pelican System Selector) that was designed for component video switching. I've got my DVD-A/SACD and my HD-D1 running into it and then outputting to my 5.1's on my receiver. BTW, this cheap switcher also does Toslink!
I would not use 6 Y RCA's to split the input. You might be introducing unwanted noise from the unit that is "off". The Pelican System selectors can be bought from video game stores for $99. Best Buy also sells a Psyclone System Selector for $99, but I hate the silver color.
