Guys, just wondering why no or few people worry about the horizontal bars on the top and bottom of the screen when watching movies in 2.35:1 ratio. Any comments?

Most people are generally oblivious regarding this issue until evidence of uneven phosphor wear rears its ugly head.

But also who wants to zoom a 2.35:1 movie? Ruins it.

As long as it isn't for too long aperiod and preferrably not in the first ~200 hours I'd think you'd be fine.

Your sage advice is not congruous with those who wish to remain oblivious about these matters.

If you only watch 2.35:1 movies then you may develop problems, but if you mix it up with full screen fare then you should be OK.

That paper is over 3 years old and recommends keeping the set at half brightness for the first 1,000 hours. That's ridiculous. Technology has improved since then.
