How are "anamorphic" DvD's handled?

Just wondering, as I await my decision here on a CRT pj real soon....I'm wondering how anamorphic DVD's are handled on these 4x3 resolution crt projectors, if I'm planning on using a 16x9 screen? All the older crt rear projection big screens I've been used to over the years handled these via the "full mode" or similar. That took care of the image perfectly squeezing all the info into the 16x9 area accordingly, er whatever. Is there such a thing on, say, the sony D50, NEC PG or Marquee units?

ALSO, I'm planning on using a Lumagen's DVI scaler to scale to upwards of 720p with all my material. What effect will this have on such material, and how will it handle it?

I guess I just don't know what exactly to expect just yet, as I'm more familiar with big screens and digital PJ's, and how they handle things, including "anamorphic DVD". Any input appreciated.

I cant speak for the other but I just got a marquee 8500 and it has a anamophic squeeze mod done to it. You can squeeze the pic to 16:9 or whatever you need as most CRT projectors will aslo do
On most CRT projectors, you simply "size" the RGB input to your 16:9 screen. Then when 2.35 plays you will have black bars top and bottom.

The only exception that I know of is what spinforu is talking about on the Marquee 9500. It's vertical size control doesn't have enough range and requires that three resistors get changed.
