Running VMC and WHS, just curious how you organize and run your recorded TV shows?

I have a second 750GB drive for local storage, but then I also have manually copied shows over to the recorded tv folder of my WHS.

I tried in the past storing all my shows on a network device, but found it to be slow to open the recorded TV menu and then to play, have not tried this with WHS on a large scale.

I feel like the process right now is manual, as the drive gets to big I have to decide what to keep/delete/move to WHS. I suppose I could have scripts robocopy stuff over as needed, but seems all to manual.

S0 my question is how do you manage your collections, best practices, cool utilities that help automate the whole process.

Locally on the HTPC I have 2x 1Tb (about to be replace by 2x 2Tb) and 1x 2Tb HDD for TV, Anime and Movies (iso and other formats). I use SecondCopy to backup those to same size external HDD (I had a bad experience once, never again). You can program SecondCopy to copy only the files that were added or modified so you save a lot of time that way. I backup once a week.

I used to stream to my PS3 before but it was begining a hastle to convert or tweak the files as to make them compatible with it.

A home server is a good thing if you have many access point for your media since it centralize your collection but if, like me, you are only using them in one place then a server is not needed or even desire since its only function will be to boost your electrical bill.
