Another newbie to Girder question...

MB: Soyo Fire Dragon

Internal connector to IR board (not included w/ MB!)

apparently optionally overrides external COM B Port.

Bios has settings:

Normal - COM B as "normal"

IrDA

ASKIR

SCR

And for IrDA and ASKIR, Half or Full Duplex can be selected.

I understand Girder doesn't like IrDA and that it is not

well-suited for Remote Control from across the room anyway.

I don't undersand what ASKIR or SCR are all about. In any event,

I can't seem to get WinXP to "notice" the IR COM B when either are

selected.

Can anyone share successful experience here or do I need to go

out and acquire an IRMan?

After much investigation, I've learned way too much 'bout IrDA, ASK-IR, etc.

I'm replacing the $35 IrDA transceiver board with the IRMan as Brian

(and the plethora of postings out there) suggested. Same price and

much more effective :)

Thanks!

The Actisys 200L is a great IR remote transceiver for the PC. Be careful and do not get the 220L which is IrDA only.

HTPC macro control of your AV equipment is really nice...I highly recommend setting up an IR transceiver and not a receiver.
