Is that possible?

The R61's built-in display is only 1280x800 and it has vga port only (no dvi or hdmi).

Does the projector have VGA? if it does then it should work without a problem.

VGA is an analog signal and might not work well for 1920x1080 but it should still display. When you connect the projector hit the fn+f4 twice or whatever button turns on the second display then you should be able to change the resolution.

There is VGA port in the projector. I have no problem to extend the second display to the projector. But I just can't change the resolution to 1920x1080. 1400x1050 is the max I can set.

The graphic card might not support the high resolution. It doesn't make much sense for high end graphics with a max resolution screen of 1280x800, espically for a business laptop. My t400 has integrated and discrete graphic cards which is switchable in the bios but I don't believe that was an option on the R61's but worth a try.
