I'm considering getting a 36XS955, however I'm not to fond of the stand from sony that is made for it. So, I'm condsidering buying another one. I know the depth of the TV is 25", and the sony stand is 24" deep. Most of the stands I'm finding I want are in the neighborhood of 22" deep. So, is the depth of the TV, the 25", is that the total depth with the back and all, or is that the footprint of the TV, such that it will fit nicely on the 22" stand, its just the back plastic behind the tube will stick out behind, which is no big deal. Any comments?

The bumpout for the electron guns overhangs the flat connector panel area underneath it by about 5 inches. So nominally, you have approximately a 20" deep base. But please do not substitute this info for a true measurement. I did a quick and dirty measurement in the store; my set is still on order so I cannot confirm precisely. Also, this beast is 235 lbs and I do not know the center of gravity. Most sets have the vast majority of weight toward the front. Don't get a cheap stand.

Emtywallet there are HDTV combinations like mine, F38310 that *locks*, below it there is with room for 2 components (one a Sony 5.1 receiver the other a DVD Progressive Scan player) behind a double glass door. Sony Wega has matching stands for its flagship models, when I bought my open box I only paid $299 for the locking HDTV to Stand. Locking stands or stands made expressly for the model give the owner safety to those working around or under the HDTV. BTW my locking stand is the same depth as my open box F38310 25 inches is the depth, I feel very safe that the heavy 39" 216 pound set is not going to fall on me. Safety like that alone is well worth the $299 paid, choose wisely you too can be sure your heavy toy won't break your bones or ruin itself smashing down to that non giving hard floor.
