I finally have my 240 ceiling mounted and all the equipment installed.

Now it's time to think about calibrating it...

How do I do this?

Can someone point me to some threads that would help me here?

I heard rumblings about Avia DVDs?? What are they all about? I also

heard they are expensive.. I don't want to pay a lot for it.

I can probably live with what I have, but I'd like it to be optimal.

The flesh tones are a little off...

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim,

Most of the options you want are under the menu section called "Picture Management". You will only see this once you've turned on the advanced menu. There should be 5 hard coded modes and 4 user definable modes. If you plug in a vga signal, it defaults to presentation mode, if you plug in an svideo, composite, or component signal it defaults to video mode. I personally think the video mode colors/config stink. Color temp and brightness are a matter of preference for most people, so play around with defining user modes to get what you like.

Personally, I think the projector looks best in Econo-mode presentation, with a little less white peaking than standard. To each his/her own.

Cheers,

Andy

I know there's ISF calibration for RPTV and CRT FP, but I really havn't read about calibration for LCD or DLP.

The furthest I taken calibration in it's true sense was using an copy of Joe Kane's Video Essentials.

Avia is a calibration disc. It will walk you through the basics of properly adjusting your picture and sound settings.

It is rather expensive, but a new disc called Digital Video Essentials was just released which serves the same purpose and only costs about $19 at Amazon. I suggest you order it ASAP. You would be foolish to spend this much money on a digital projector and skimp on the $19 to calibrate it properly.

Has anyone had experience with both? I'v seen the Avia for

about $40 ( I think). I'll splurge for that, but if the DV essentials does the

same thing, then I'd rather spend $20!

Have folks that have done this get adequate results without a light meter?

I've read in a couple places that you need some sort of light meter to truly

calibrate the PJ. Is this true? Or will just the DVD be good enough?

Thanks,

Jim
