How do I go into Silent Mode?

419 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  mozot
I have a Zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu CPU fan on a Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 (Rev 4.0)

Intel 865PE Motherboard. Zalman says there is a Normal Mode and a Silent Mode, well that knob they have on the fan doesnt ever get the fan to be silent or near silent. So maybe I was wondering if there is a controp on the Motherboard's bios or some setting I missed to get this Silent Mode. Anyone have any ideas?

I just bought the same HSF for my AthlonXP 2600+ Barton on Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe Mobo. In silent mode (all the way to clockwise, I believe) I can't hear a d4mn thing, especially over my intake and PSU exhaust fans. Even all the way up, it's still pretty quiet.

If you can still hear the fan, outside of your case (closed up, of course) from more than a foot away, you may have a defective unit.

Be more descriptive, is the noise just air turbulence (whooshing) or is it motor noise (humming or buzzing)? Also, when adjusting the fanmate2, do you notice any drop in noise/speed? If not, then it may not be functional or connected properly. The fanmate2 is a simple rheostat that lowers the voltage to the fan to make it run slower. You shouldn't need any software options enabled as it's a completly hardware based system.

Is it possible that you were so blessed with a naturally quiet system before, that now you're completely spoiled? :p I kid, I kid...

Hope that helps,

Cheers

Here's my ultra silent mode.

START ---> SHUTDOWN ----> OK :)
Mine does adjust, from reallly loud to loud, everything else in my system is super quiet so I can definitely here this thing in my room at night sleeping. To be specific it is the air tubulence sound (no clicking or grinding). Maybe it has something to do with my processor not ever cooling down that the fan has to kick up ALL the time?
