Reading several threads I found mention of hard reboot to solve some replaytv issues. In my last post I mention that I have infinite reboot problem which seems to be a hard disk failure. Some people have suggested a hard reboot. How is this done if I can't even get into the system?

The usual way for a hard reboot is to pull the plug and wait a few minuted and plug it back in. A soft boot is just holding down the power button for a few minutes until it blinks and reboots.

make sure you are prepared to lose all your data. ie. recorded shows, channels/themes and preferences/settings.

If you want to be especially careful, hold the power button in for a while, maybe 5 seconds, the fan will stop spinning. At that point you are almost assured there is no disk activity and you can pull the power plug without worry. That being said, I've pulled my plug many times after just listening for disk activity to subside and have never had a problem.
