I have recently purchased the MIT MYHD MDP-120 TV Tuner card and have a question regarding connection setup with my EPSON 200 LCD projector. The projector only has analog inputs (VGA, Component). I've already purchased a 10 Meter Component cable in anticipation of this type hookup. However, I do not have a component out option on the tuner card. What is the best way to connect to the projector via component? Do I need a transcoder to do this effectively or can I get away with just a cable to do this? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

R

No, you should not need a transcoder to output component from the MyHD. What you may need is a VGA to component cable adapter. The MyHD only has the VGA connector, but using the configuration panel, you can set whether RGB or Component signals are output through the vga connector from the card.

You need a cable like this:

then you can connect to your long cable with barrel connectors (double female RCA). Simply choose component output (YPbPr) option on the MyHD VGA control panel. You cannot use loopback with this configuration unless you also have a ATI dongle or similar to put the desktop in component output as well. That would require another breakout cable as well. Are you sure you don't just want to put a long VGA cable as well?

I'm just looking for the best way to do this... If I did decide to use component all the way from the videocard would I sacrifice noticeable quality?

Let me list what I think I'm understanding here and please correct me If I'm wrong. I have a Connect3D Radeon X800 Pro that has an S-Video to Component cable. So, from the videocard S-Video to Component - Component to VGA - Connect with VGA breakout cable from Tuner card. Run VGA to Component cable from VGA out from Tuner. Is this right?

I appreciate the help :)

If you just want to display only to the projector then you should loop back the vga output from your vga card to myHD. Your expensive vga card is kind of waste in this case ;). Since you can run a long vga cable which is cheaper than component from the pc to the projector before making the conversion to component, this is what i'm doing w/ a 30 ft long vga cable. VGA is typically good for under 50ft, IIRC.
