Hello all. I was wondering if a passive 3D LCD panel is different than a standard 2D panel or is it the main board that makes it 3D?

I have a Vizio E420D-A0 for only 8 months and the LCD panel randomly cracked on the 17th for no reason. So I was thinking I might be able to use a panel from a Vizio E420i-A0

These two TV's have identical specs except one has 3D added.

So if the panels are the same then it should work or at the very least I can reassemble the E420i-A0 and just use that.

The passive 3D screens have an additional FPR layer.

I guess they still can be used in a 2D display, without the circuitry. You may check by looking through the passive 3D glasses with one eye. If you see the black lines, then it has the FPR.

I see. I emailed vizio about it, we'll see what they say. Then again I might just buy an lg because they told me if there is an internal crack on the screen then they will warranty it.

Once again, thanks.
