anyone here know how the black level/contrast on the typical LCD compares to a super-8 projected image?

the only LCD i've seen in person is the sony vw10ht. it was in less than ideal conditions, and i've no doubt it was only mildly tweaked if at all. when i was a kid though, i loved super-8 and had a fair sized collection of movies and thought they looked great projected straight on the wall. i realize that film is a whole 'nother animal, but i wonder how close the images would compare. seems the noise issue may be comparable, except for the fact i didn't have a dd/dts surround set-up back then and the soundtrack was only coming out of the tinny speaker on the side of the projector. about the biggest differences i would think would be that super-8 is a more 'tactile' experience. but do you think the images would be that wildly disparate?

I'm old enough to have had regular 8 experience, as well as many hours spent viewing 16mm releases of commercial films in summer camp.

My FP setup is infinitely superior to either.

drmyeyes: what kind of set-up do you have? CRT, LCD, etc?

i'm going to be looking to get in for under $6k when i'm ready. i realize that's get me nowhere close to an ideal system, but it sounds like there may be decent lower budget alternatives for the savvy shopper.
