I exposed this setting via Nvidia's Coolbits 2.0 patch.

I also have turned on "Vertical Synch" and "Triple Buffering".

All I know about the real effects of this setting is to reduce mouse lag when gaming - that is, if you set it to 1, people claim it fixes mouse lag issues.

I actually meant how it affects VMR9. More specifically how it alters VMR9 performance when you add more frames to process ahead. If I had to guess, increasing the value adds video frame buffering to keep the frame rate steady.

Yeah, I know what you meant. But the original purpose does offer a clue. I wonder if the setting is irrevelant if you use FFDShow?

I have tried different settings and it doesn't seem to make any difference on my system (6800GT, Athlon XP 3500+, MCE 2005).

Oh nevermind - a search on Google revealed that I need to get the latest 77.77 NVIDIA drivers to get the Triple Buffering option in the Advanced settings of the NVIDIA control panel.
