Last night I broke out the AVIA disc and displayed the 10 IRE pattern (I believe this is what it is called, 10 vertical grayscale bars beginning with white on left and ending with black on right). Anyway, my gamma using the 6071 drivers was set to 3 and could just barely make out the difference between the last two bars at the end of the spectrum. When I went to 4 the difference between the last two was more apparent and as I further increased gamma the left side of the spectrum began to lose contrast. So I settled on 4 and redid my brightness and contrast settings.

Does this sound like proper methodology? Thanks

Also, how does saturation affect gamma? Are they independant from one another?

DRS,

This has been discussed in the following thread:

ATI DVDplayer

I'm guessing from your post that you have a Radeon card in your HTPC.

Hope this helps.
