How does this mix and match of "IDs" sound?

Let me know what you guys think about this setup. The receiver is going to be a Yamaha 1700 or a H/K 645.

Fronts: Ascend CMT-340 ($720 with stands and shipping)

Center: Ascend CMT-340($318 with shipping)

Surrounds: 3 Axiom QS4($752 with ceiling brackets and shipping)

Sub:SVS PB10-NSD($485 with shipping)

Considering also changing fronts to Axiom M3 v2($520 with stands and shipping) as

my living room is not huge the FR/FL will be about 10-12ft away and the center will be about 8ft away. Let me know what you guys think of the mix of Ascend and Axiom thought I like the sound of both of these speakers just never heard them mixed.

Thanks,

Brandon

If you are going to change the fronts, then I would suggest you try and stick with a center that is timbre matched. The surrounds do not have to be matched, but if you were to go and get a whole setup, then it might be best to go with the same brand. But it is not a big deal. Heck I have Boston VRX's as my surrounds and Swan 6.1's as my fronts and Swan C3 Center. I got the Boston VRX's for a steal and sound good with the rest of the system.

Garrett is correct, it is important for the left/right mains to match the center. With that being said, I think the Axiom Qs8's and Qs4's are one of the best surrounds in the industry, so you might as well go with all Axioms. :)

Hmmm interesting so if I do decide to go with the M3's for the fronts you guys would suggest going with the axiom VP150 center in that case?

As I mentioned I like the sound of both of these setups, but I wonder if the M3s and 150 wouldnt have the output of the Ascend fronts and center. What do you guys think? The setup will be 80% HT 20% music. The living room is 14'd, 15'w, 9'h on one side there is a half wall that looks into a room that is another 20' from the half wall and although the couch is placed at the back of the room the kitchen is behind the couch and extends another 15' so there is no rear wall for about 30'. Not the best audio setup.

Why not?
Brandon, you really have lots of options. Keep in mind shipping is free from Axiom, and I'm not sure if the prices your quoting are Factory Outlet (10% discount) or regular? The majority of the Axiom owners purchase from the FO. Also, if you order 5 or more items total (speakers or acces.) you get another 5% on top of the 10%.

You might want to post your question on the Axiom forum, as I have not heard the m3's. They do have a good reputation though. You might want to consider going with 2 Qs8's for now, and then get another later as your budget allows, instead of 4 Qs4's, they are both great speakers, the Qs8's are better overall. The VP100 is a great center, and most likely would be fine for your roomsize, that would save you some green. You may want to consider the M22's, they are very good, and when matched with a sub, are killer. :)

Also, you could also check the Axiom Audition thread and see if anyone is in your neck of the woods, that will give you a listen. That is what sold me on Axiom.

But matching is not as important as if you were to match the front three speakers. If one can not afford to get matching surrounds of the system, then it is not as a big of a deal as it is to match the front three.

I have thought about the M22's the M3s sounded so great and I have heard the M22s were even "cleaner" sounding. I have heard the VP150 and liked it also but some people say the VP100 is quite a set down from it so I would kinda worry there.

Is there a big difference from the Qs4's to the Qs8's I understood that it was mostly power handling and that over all the performance was close?

Thanks,

Brandon

I completely agree with this statement. And one more side note to this, while it is best to match your front 3 speakers it is more important for them to match when listening to music and not as much when listening to HT IMHO.
With all three up front being 340SE's, you will not find better timbre matching. The 340's are more speaker than the M3's or M22's.

The QS8's are great surrounds if you want diffused sound, and work fine with the Ascends, but using Ascend CBM-170SE's or HTM-200's would be a better timbre match. I have not heard the QS4's.

It looks like your are doing a 6.1 configuration. I would advise a 7.1 config or stay at 5.1. Sound from a single rear center speaker can sometimes sound like it is coming from the front, which is the main reason for 7.1.

The pricing you have listed for the Ascends does not look like package pricing...it should be a little bit lower overall.

Have you heard these systems?
