How far back can a Panny 500 be put on a shelf without degrading?

The question is straight foward. I'm planning to build a HT and it's 14-15' long and 10-11' wide with 7' ceiling. Good on a rear shelf or ceiling mount the same distance?

My Panny AE-700u is on a rear shelf about 17.5' away from screen projecting a 92" image. Looks great...

The 500 doesn't have the much better zoom as the 700. I need someone who has the 500 who has shelf mounted it in the rear.
