I live in a condo, so a big wall shattering sub is not needed. Just something small fitting, yet feels the room with clean bass and deep lows. I'm 100% using this sub for movies.

Its only $299 at best buy magnolia. Seems to have good stats better than many 10" subs in the price range.

Details: Mirage Omni S8

» 100-watt RMS amplifier

» 8" front-firing woofer with patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround

» front-panel controls include volume, crossover, phase, and filter mode

» continuously variable 40-120 Hz crossover

» phase switch

» auto on/off

» speaker-level and line-level inputs

» unfiltered LFE input

» black finish

» removable grille included

» 11-11/16"W x 14-11/16"H x 15-5/16"D

I have only had experience with the SR12 and SR10, but by all reports the Mirage Omni quality is similar throughout the series. The SR8 should hold it's own with the best of the < $300 subs, like the Hsu STF-1 or Onix X-Sub.

Just keep in mind that the S8 really doesn't have any output of note below 30Hz.

As for the sound, it sounds fine. I tried it with my high quality bookshelf speakers, and it worked well, and sounded clean. If your condo is an open concept space, the S10 would be a worthwhile upgrade as it has more output between 25-30 Hz that you would feel.

$299 seems kind of pricey, you could probably do a lot better on the price also.

Hi

If I was you, I would get the Onix X-Sub.

I have an X-Sub in Rosa Diamond Palisander on order. For $199 plus shipping, the standard finishes are a very very good deal.

All the Best

I'd agree with spyboy on that one. I've heard the S8 in a friend's condo (paired with the Nanosat package) and while it is a good sounding little sub, at the end of the day it doesn't have much output and distorted quickly in his condo (about 850 - 950 "open concept" square feet). For $200, the x-sub will likely give you comparable or better output in a nicer package. Not sure what you can get from HSU in the $300 price range these days but take a look there too (don't think SVS has anything under $400?).

You can get the SVS PB10 is white or silver right now for $375 during their overstock sale.

Also, don't forget the OUtlaw Audio LFM-1 for $299, it is a very good sub.

The PB-10 in white or silver is not exactly inconspicuous.

Kind Regards

PS Neither is the PB-12 NSD in white or silver, that is why they are on sale.

The LFM-1 at the same price would "spank" the S8, but I didn't think they had any left (now the LFM-2 is $299, but that would be a much "fairer" comparison to the S8 as they both have 8" drivers).

I meant the LFM-2, my daughter was pushing keys at the same time as I was typing that. :)
