How hard is it to change a crt?

331 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  gearhead
I currently have 2 sony 1272's one of which has a worn blue tube and the other has a worn green tube(both about a 7). I would like to just sell the one with the worn blue tube(unit has 3,300 hrs) and replace the green tube with the one that has 900 hrs... How hard is it to change the tubes in a 1272... Does anyone know the going price of a good green tube? Does someone have one by any chance? Oh if it helps i went to devry and i have been working at bosch power tools for over 5 years taking tools apart and repairing them, also work on cars so i have mechanical ability and some electronic knowhow.. :)

Try this for a generic tube replacement

http://www.curtpalme.com/CRTReplacement.htm

its not that difficult, and I would suggest you trasplant the entire unit.....

tube, deflection coil, astog(s) etc.....then if you are not sure there is less setup to do - if no one has "played" with it.....
Just make sure that you re-install the hardware/cable correctly.

I actually pulled all three tubes from a Barco 808 twice last night. :D

Also - be careful of the tube neck - as it is fragile..

yea i seen the replacement steps on curts site but wasnt sure if its the same for the 1272. I also seen the tubes on ebay with out the coil, on it which got me confused. One other question is the tubes for the 1272 the 07mp or the 07msp.

Sony 1272's come from the factory with 07MSP's.

There is a thread or two about substituting 07MP's, I think it can be done, perhaps a search would find the appropriate thread(s).

i remember a post that someone made that asked the question if 07mp could replace an 07msp and curt has done it its just that the 07mp is a dimmer tube than the 07msp.
That's the thread...

1272 blue tube replacement options...

I've done it once, now... replaced all three tubes (07msp) in a 1252 with three better tubes (07mp). Worked perfectly, save for focus issues with one tube that I couldn't cure.
