How has your projector changed your life style?

1344 Views 22 Replies 19 Participants Last post by  En Sabur Nur
Im just curious to see how much an impact your projectors have made on your life style?

For my wife and I its been quite a bit. Prior to the projector we used to go out all the time, especialy on the weekends. In the 9 months we have had the projector we havent gone out one weekend at all.

Our usual routine now is on friday to stop by a thai resteraunt or an awesome bbq place just down the street and each order 3 or 4 meals for take out. Throw them in fridge and have that as our meals for the whole weekend. I make sure that I have my max of dvd's from netflix in the house by friday (one day turnaround on delivery from them rocks).

The look on the girls face was priceless at the thai resteraunt the first time we ordered a total of something like 7 or 8 dinners for takeout, and she asked having a party? And I said no, its just for the two of us. Now they expect us on fridays, and always throw in a couple of extra goodies as a surprise for us.

Between the DVD's and whatever is on cable we stay pretty busy the whole weekend for entertainment. Weekday evenings the hourly shows that are on the hd channels like law and order, surface, invasion, ncic, numbers, etc etc keep us in front of the screen.

So it has made a big impact on our lifestyle. Its definetly turned the two of us into couch potatos.

My wife gets free movie tickets from where she works, At least 4 a month. We havent used any of them, they all just expire or I give them away.

Let's see.....

I'm now thousands and thousands of dollars poorer...

I get much less sleep during the week than I used to...

I can no longer enjoy watching a movie on anything less than a 100" screen...

My friends at work all look at me funny when I start talking about screen door effect and macro blocking problems at lunch...

And it seems that on most Tuesdays I feel this irresistable force drawing me into a local establishment that sells DVDs...

Other than that it hasn't changed me at all.....(but of course I wouldn't have it any other way!) :D

Well I have owned an FP since 00' and have been into HT pretty heavy since 98' ..luckily I have other hobbies so I have not spent the last 7 years just right here.

Come spring time my "other" hobbies take over....but when late fall hits its back to my A/V hobby.

Sure my lifestyle has changed ....probably not in the best ways either...I mean if a guy took up bodybuilding as a hobby then he is pretty much going to get built up.

If a guy does nothing but watch movies at home every night that is going to have some effect over the long run. :)

If you are a 24/7 365 day a year HT guys ...trust me...it will eventually let off because you will realize you are spending way to much time on this hobby.

Although I have been around here awhile and I see some old schoolers who still post as much as they did 7 years ago... yikes. :)

Hmm, well, I seem to have friends over alot more lately :) Wherever I go I always seem to keep an ear out for someone talking TVs or video so I can chime in with comments on how nice it is to have a ten foot screen, hehe. I've been doing alot of demos, convincing people that front projection is the holy grail. I have a friend who is dead set on buying some 40" overpriced plasma, I'm trying to talk him into driving over to my house and watching some HD broadcasts before he wastes the money ;)

I also find myself in the living room more now because I moved the PC down here. I know it's a waste of bulb, but I do -everything- on the Z4 now. Watch DVDs, HDTV, regular cable, console gaming, PC gaming / net surfing, hell I even watch VCR stuff. I know people say it's horrid, but I'm not a videophile so I can tolerate even VHS @ 120".

The bitches love movie night.....just a joke.
well, Ive just gone mental.

does that count ? :p
My wife and I go to the movies a hell of a lot less. The last movie we saw in the movie theater was Star Wars ROTS

I JUST got one. And it means I watch movies again.

A few months ago, when I decided I was going to get a PJ, I held off on watching DVD movies until I could watch them on the "big screen".

The wait was worth it!

It will probably mean the wife will see me more, as I will watch TV and movies with her more often, as opposed to PC gaming after work.....unless I connect the PC to the PJ.... ;)
I used to be sort of a couch potato, but now that I've gone FP I'm a "Total Tater". JD

I agree with this, although I tend to go for human females. I've seem to gotten more of them over to my place since the PJ went in.

When my new Mits shows up, I'll have thresomes up in here.. :D :D
well I just got my Z4 on December 23rd and I've watched more movies in the last 6 days than I did in the last 6 months. I spent the last 10 months finishing my basement and knew I was going with a projector set up with a 96 inch screen. Consequently it just didn't seem right watching movies on the 36" XBR Wega anymore.

All I can say is the Z4 is remarkable. It's my first FP and the picture on both HD and movies (upconverted) is awesome. I watched "The Machinest" this evening with my lovely wife and then caught the end of the Canada/Switzerland World Junior Hockey game in HD :D I don't think home entertainment gets much better than that!
Fatboyp, which picture is better overall to you: The 36XBR or the Z4?
Z4 hands down but its an unfair comparison as my XBR is non HD. I bought mine the year before the Wega line went HD capable  but I got it at close to half price so I'm really not that bothered. The XBR still has a great picture but there's nothing like watching movies and HD on an 8 foot diagonal screen!
I find tha I go out to movies with my girlfriend a lot less. We're now buying a lot more DVD's and watching them on my projector.

But I don't use it ALL the time. I still watch HD/ Videogames on my Sharp 32" Aquos, but my 360 is hooked up to my PJ now (waiting on DOA4).

Outstanding film. Bale was shocking to see, and what a story. Unmissable movie.

and its all possible due to the great PJs we can buy over the last year, at affordable prices.

well done, Santa.

Well it made any football game a much better experience- Went from a 4:3 regular tube television to the 16:9 4805 with an HDTV feed being fed into it.

I have no idea if I'll ever go to the movies again. I have better food, a better picture, and better sound. Unless I start missing the previews I can see why I would ever go back.
I never go out to the theaters as I am more critical of video and sound. Wife initially hated it, but now she loves it. Lighter in the pockets for sure, but it is $$ well spent. Sporting events in HD is an breathtaking experience.

I noticed that I am a real good referee these days ;) :D

Sports are unbelievable in HD.

I tend to be a little more brash, if you will ,when it comes to viewing any kind of video.

"Sure that looks okay on your 55" set  My screen is 4 times bigger and is HD"

But I love the look it gets when people come over for the first time.... I think it is a little something like so --->

Won't change my lifestyle much as I always enjoyed watching movies/HD @ home because of my audio setup.

Audio sounds MUCh better now that I have a 4805 and a 92" screen vs a 4:3 sony 32" HDTV to watch the good stuff on :)

Wife could care less so she says.
