That's a valid question (at least for us). VCRs and PVRs have different uses for us in recording shows. We still have two (of three) VCRs in active use along with two (of three) PVRs.
In general, VCRs get used for recording stuff that's going to be around for a while. This includes kid's shows that will be kept and watched over and over (and over and over and over...), as well as the stuff my wife and I watch but won't be getting to for a few months. Of course VCRs also get used to watch all the pre-recorded kids's movies and the-like.
The PVRs get used for all the stuff we record/watch/delete within a few weeks. Some of us in the family do a better job of keeping up-to-date than others, but the use-model is still valid.
While PVRs have been fantastic for making simple time-shifting of shows easier, they don't replace VCRs for all the things we use them for.
