I've got three an ATT Osprey Android TV box (mainly use for beta test), a Roku Premiere Plus original edition and a ATV 4. The ATV is the go to box most of the time. :)

Im gonna step up to another device, an ATV, i currently use a ShieldTV.
ugh....I found the shield to be the worst video quality of all the devices I have streamed from. Returned it after a week. It was the picture quality that was the issue.... not the operating system. Actually I find the Amazon operating system to be the easiest but it's probably just because it gets used the most. PS4 interface is good as well but we only use netflix and Prime so can't really speak for how good any of the systems are.

These are what we use:

1. Fire TV Cube
2. Xfinity cable box
3. PS4
4. Fire TV 4K stick.
5. Samsung TV (only on the rare occasion as it's WIFI connection is terrible)
6. Panasonic ub820

In my Home Theater I only use one (ATV4K)

I have a few Roku's from years gone by so the play room TV I use for Video Games (PS4, Wii U) has a Roku also. We have guests at the house so my daughter and I used the Roku to watch something the other day. Generally though I use the ATV4K in my home theater.

Nvidia Shield for live TV, DVR, YouTube, HBO Now, MKV rips via Plex, and gaming (Steam, Gamestream, Lightspeed Studios, etc).

AppleTV for Netflix and Showtime Anytime.

Chromecast Audio for music.

Oppo UDP-203 for local MKV rips and music.

Interesting. I too have both Apple TV 4Ks (4 of them) and a Shield in my main media room.

You prefer the Shield for Plex playback? ATV for Netflix?

May I ask why?
They're both good boxes. I like both and use both a lot. I think the Pros and Cons of one vs the other are relatively minor, at least for my uses...

The ATV does Dolby Vision and the Shield "only" does HDR10, and for Netflix I think the ATV picture looks a *little bit* better on my TV (Sony 940E).

For Blu Ray rips I use MakeMKV and retain the lossless audio. And I tend to prefer bitstreaming that signal on to my Denon for decoding. I know there's an app a lot of people on here use and really like that lets the ATV do the lossless decoding internally.

Outside of Home Theater A/V I'm pretty heavily engrained in the Android ecosystem (for example, I have 5 Shields and only one ATV on my main 4k HDR TV). So my family just tends to prefer working in the Android ecosystem. We can "cast" to Shields from our phones for YouTube, Plex, HBO, Showtime, Play Music, etc, but we can't "airplay" anything to the ATV... And we use those Shields for gaming off my PC/Server/Steam account too...

Nvidia Shield - Primary TV - YouTube, Sling TV
AirTV Player (Dish) - 2nd TV - Sling w/ OTA tuner integration, OTA DVR
Sony 900E TV - Primary TV - Native video player app for movie rips on USB SSD. OTA for 'live' TV. (News, and live sports like NFL)

(Movie rips on USB drive using the Shield has been sucking after the latest 'update' so I'm using the TV's native Android TV Video player app.)

I don't care about Dolby Vision, lossless HD audio (TrueHD, DTSHD-MA), or Dolby Atmos. I also don't care about auto frame rate switching, or auto color space switching.

Roku Premier
Roku 3
Fire Tv Stick reg and 4k
ATv

I don't count on anything built into the televisions because I find them lacking. My last Tv with Fire Tv built in would kick in and out of 4k UHD and that was with an Ethernet connection.

* I have three older unused Roku models around here somewhere that I should trade in at the next opportunity. There's also an nVidia Shield I took off a tv for some reason and never reinstalled. Tried a Cube and did not like it.

1. Fire TV Stick 4K
2. Roku Premiere +
3. Nvidia Shield TV
4. Apple TV 4K(32GB)/latest generation

As you can see, nearly every angle is covered in my house.

And, by the way, outside of my Nvidia Shield, I have multiple units of each of the above located through out the house.

Each of the boxes/sticks have their own individual strengths, so that is why I am not, and will never be, married to just one brand.

There is not "one ring to rule them all" in this case...

I used to use multiples, but now only a single AndroidTV device in each primary location and Roku Express in the Kids' Rooms:

Theater - ShieldTV Pro
Living Room - Ematic Jetstream
Bedroom - Xiaomi Mii Box S
Garage - Asus Nexus Player
Girls' Room - Roku Express
Boys' Room - Roku Express

Backup - Asus Nexus Player, Roku Premiere+ 1st Gen
