How much would you pay for HD DVD & BD support?

Simple poll. Assume you can either buy both format's players for the total amount above or a combo player for that price.

EDIT: If you only have interest in only one of the formats, just vote with whatever you'd be willing to pay for that one player.

I choose "nothing" simply because I have no interest in a having a player that can play both formats.

Bah, now you're just trying to outsmart my poll. :) You should've voted whatever you're willing to pay for a single player. Surely you wouldn't be annoyed if your player plays more formats for no extra charge.

Okay my answer is $2000 then. And yeah, if my BD player had legacy support for HD DVD for no extra charge I wouldn't have a problem with that. :)
I'd probably pay up to $200 (each) for an HD DVD drive and/or Blu-ray drive for my HTPC.
My budget was $1k, though it looks like I will end up a bit over that, for 1G units. I would pay a premium over this for a single unit that did both well (e.g., 1080p, decoded to PCM ALL formats in at least 5.1, good bass management, good trout management, too, reasonably fast, hyper stable).

I agree - I'd pay a grand for a dual-format player.

I would want it to handle all the advanced audio codecs, have a firewire output, in addition to HDMI and Optical.

I'd also like it to be able to handle DVDs, CDs, DVD-As, as well as mpeg, divx, etc on various discs.
Many years ago I payed around $800 for a CD player, and a few years ago I paid $1000 for a DVD-A/SACD player, so I'm certainly willing to part with that much for a HiDef player, but as with the other purchases, I plan on waiting for a player that does everything I want before spending a cent, even if it takes a couple of years.

Sweet spot...$301-$500.

And I'm talking the lower half of the sweet spot ;)
I'm not one fo those folks who changes equipment multiple times a year. Discounting displays, the newest piece of equipment in my theater is four years old. When a new technology comes along that can do something my present setup can't, I don't mind taking the hit and jumping on it.

I selected $1401+ since that's what I'm going to end up paying. If HD DVD were $1000, I would have probably held off on it. I'm more confident with Blu Ray, and will shell out for a gen1 machine.
