When I connect the DVI cable from the projector to the video card, the monitor goes blank (power save mode). I've tried this on two different working PCs, one with a 9800pro and the other with a 9700pro video card, but the results are the same.

I want to see the PC on the monitor and projector screen at the same time, and then be able to switch so I see a DVD playing on the monitor and the projector screen. Is this possible? Thanks

you need to go into the ati control panel, then under the displays tab and re-enable your monitor by clicking on the tab to the upper left of where it has a CRT monitor displayed...that should get you going.

I have the "Catalyst Control Center" and when I go to "Displays Manager" I find the option to "Detect Displays". I assume if I had my projector connected via the DVI cable that it would be detected. However, the problem I'm having is I cannot get a display on my monitor when the DVI cable is connected from my video card to the projector. My monitor just goes into "power save mode" and doesn't complete booting into Windows XP.

Any additional help is appreciated...

1024x768 is the resolution on my monitor and I suspect it is compatible with my pj but I'm not sure. I changed the refresh rate on my monitor from 85Hz to 60Hz to see if that would help but no change. While the DVI cable is connected between the video card and projector, I get a display while Windows boots, but then when it's done booting and it's ready to display the desktop, the monitor instead goes into power save mode. I'm at a loss of what to try next....

Reset your desktop to 640x480 @ 60Hz. Shut down your computer. Then with only your DVI display connected, reboot the PC. You should now only see the resolutions that your display supports. Choose the resolution that matches the native resolution of your projector.

It might help if we knew the make and model of the projector.

I have a new Panasonic PT-L500U. (thanks Vern)

Okay, now I'm getting somewhere! Before seeing Vern's post I installed ATI's "Hydravision" thinking for some reason it may be needed... I still don't know. Then I discovered I needed the projector set to DVI (instead of component... duh), and that got my PC's desktop projected to a 7' screen, fully operational and pretty impressive. It appears to have taken a 4:3 aspect and stretched it to a 16:9.

Then I played around in the Catalyst Control Center's "Displays Manager" a bit and got the desktop to display on my monitor. However, the monitor only displays the desktop's background, no mouse, no icons, no task bar, and so it's non-functional. Detecting the displays did not correct this.

My monitor is set at 1024x768 @ 60Hz and the projected image looks fine except for being stretched to a 16x9. I then saw Vern's post and went to reset my monitor's resolution but found the lowest option was 800x600 and so I just left it at 1024x768 for now since it currently looks fine projecting to the big screen.

I'd like to be able to select between 1) using the monitor and the big screen at the same time and 2) using one or the other. Please feel free to advise. Thanks!
