It might help if we knew the make and model of the projector.

I have a new Panasonic PT-L500U. (thanks Vern)
Okay, now I'm getting somewhere! Before seeing Vern's post I installed ATI's "Hydravision" thinking for some reason it may be needed... I still don't know. Then I discovered I needed the projector set to DVI (instead of component... duh), and that got my PC's desktop projected to a 7' screen, fully operational and pretty impressive. It appears to have taken a 4:3 aspect and stretched it to a 16:9.
Then I played around in the Catalyst Control Center's "Displays Manager" a bit and got the desktop to display on my monitor. However, the monitor only displays the desktop's background, no mouse, no icons, no task bar, and so it's non-functional. Detecting the displays did not correct this.
My monitor is set at 1024x768 @ 60Hz and the projected image looks fine except for being stretched to a 16x9. I then saw Vern's post and went to reset my monitor's resolution but found the lowest option was 800x600 and so I just left it at 1024x768 for now since it currently looks fine projecting to the big screen.
I'd like to be able to select between 1) using the monitor and the big screen at the same time and 2) using one or the other. Please feel free to advise. Thanks!
