I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere, but I've been unable to find the answer. My ht has the couch against the rear wall. (room is 13x17 w/ screen on a 17' wall and couch against other 17' wall) I realize this isn't acoustically ideal but it works for all the other reasons. Question is, to the side surrounds go on the side wall 1/2 to 2/3 back from the screen- in front of the seating, or do they go in the corners facing in to the seating couch near the rear wall.

Thanks,

Art

You may want to re-think doing a 7.1-speaker set-up. The rear speakers should go a few feet behind the listening area, which is not possible if there is no 'behind' behind your listening area.

The side speakers should be placed directly to the sides of the listening area, not forward of the listening area. In your case, that would mean placing the speakers in the corners - facing the couch.

I can show you as soon as I get some picks of the rear of my room.

P.S. It involves moving the couch at least a foot from the wall.

OK,

Here's the latest shot of the rear of the room. As you can see the surround back are not aimed straight ahead so that the funky effects of 'reversing' where the sound comes from doesn't happen.
