How to find out whether my panasonic projector is accepting 1080p output

Hi

I recently purchased PS3 to play BD movies and here is my current set up -

a) Sony PS3

b) Panasonic PT-AE900U projector

c) These hooked through HDMI

Now when I have selected BD/Movie settings screen in PS3 for 1080p/24Hz output (Automatic option)

Now in my display settings, when I choose Video Output setting->HDMI->manual and select 1080p mode, my projector does display but the start screen of PS3 looks very stretched and bad. However, when I choose 1080i or 720p or 576p mode, it looks very clear. Any idea what's happening here?

Secondly moving back to my primary question on BD movie play. When I play the BD disc after leaving the video output setting->HDMI->Automatic and then when I play the movie, how do I find out whether it is really playing at 1080p. When I presss 'select' on my remote, it tells about the Audio details but I do not get to know whether PS3 is really playing at 1080p or not.

In addition, I wanted to understand that since my Panasonic native resolution is 720p, will it display at 1080p resolution or will it downconvert to 720p. How do I check at what resolution my projector is displaying video?

I have tried looking at both the manuals of PS3 and Panasonic but am not able to figure out so any help in this will be appreciated.

I have the same projector. Although, I cannot help you with regard to the PS3 because I don't have one; I can tell you that your (our) projector can accept the 1080p signal, however, the resulting display is 720p. You can easily find this information when you select the Menu then the Picture submenu; you will see that only if you are using Component or HDMI will the screen resolution be displayed. This information is on pgs. 40-42 of the manual. Sorry I can't help you with the PS3 side of things. Hopefully someone will chime in and help you.
Your projector will always show it's native resolution, which is 720p. If you want to see what is coming into the projector, you can see that in one of the menus. I have the AX100U and it displays 1080p/60 when watching Blu Ray despite showing 720p. It will tell you what is coming in. No need for it to "show you" what it is outputting as that will always be the native resolution of the projector.

Hope this helps,

Pat

Thanks. and 1 more thing all my setup with my players was 1080i (bd30, bd10a, hd-a30 hd-a2) before I got the sammy 1500 and when I pressed the remote over my pj it shows 1080i is that means my pj is accepting 1080i and ouputting 1080i also? I asked because my pj although it is 720p res but it also support 1080i/60. If it is I might just set up my sammy 1500 as 1080i.
sigh....what part of native resolution isn't clear? Your projector has 1280x720 pixels. Period. It cannot display anything differently than that. Any other resolution sent to the projector requires scaling -- either adding in or throwing away pixels.
