how to find the best price?

984 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  klover
Can you combine a price match with a coupon code?

What other options can we use to find or reduce the total cost (shipping)

Are there any good price search engines to use for projectors?

Feel free to PM me with your success stories.

If this is in the wrong forum please let me know?

Asking if you can combine a price match with a coupon is too generic of a question....that is such a YMMV question, it can't be answered without giving a specific situation and store.

I don't think there are any unknown price search engines beyond the well known ones.

Here's my generic advice. 1) Decide what you can afford to spend. 2) Determine what you want in a picture (black levels, contrast, accurate color etc)...no projector is perfect, esp. if you are looking at price as the main factor. 3) Are there any room limitations for projector placement?

Here are some suggestions once you've determined the above factors and narrowed your choices down to a list. Is there a projector that would be that next level up, but out of your price range...

1) Consider jumping into the used market. There are terrific opportunities through the classified forum here at AVS. There are members who want the latest and greatest, so they upgrade quite often.

2) Buy last years version of the higher end model, when the new models are released. Sometimes dealers will sell their demo units to make way for the new model in their demo room

3) Buy a refurb unit from an authorized dealer. You can combine that purchase with a reputable extended warranty coverage. (ie mack camera). This is what I did.

BTW: Though it's not always enforced. AVS doesn't want the forum to be a focus on where, who to buy the cheapest or price shopping site. The focus is on performance and more technical side of the hobby. Don't be surprised if the thread gets locked or deleted....which is fair considering the rules/focus of AVS.

Hunt.

I found 2 IN72s sitting in boxes at A/V dealers that cost me $300 after rebate. One had 32 hours on it, the other 7.

And don't take "out of stock" statements on websites too seriously. I picked up a Benq W100 for song by calling a couple websites that listed them as out of stock/production.

Sure enough, one never got sent out and they didn't bother updating the system for one machine.

It's fun.
