I have the Toshiba 46H83 and the Panasonic SC-HT900(HTIB). I can't really buy new components because its a HTIB and its all together. However, I have some money to spend and would like to improve my home theater. Is there anything I can buy or do to the TV, speakers, DVD player, etc. to improve anything? Or maybe some accessory or something. Anyway, can you think of any items I could buy (under $200) that would improve my HT? Please off ANY suggestions you may think of. Thanks.

$200 is pretty limited. I would go for an improvement in the audio side of things if it was me if you plan on slowly upgrading your whole system. Otherwise, a better DVD player might be in order. You should be able to judge this by how good test patterns look on Avia.

I would look for used speakers from KEF and Mission. They have good sound quality and tend to be easy to drive. The KEF Q15's along with the old Mission 770's are a few I would consider for the mains. I would start with the mains or center followed with a new subwoofer and surrounds. Once you select a brand I would stick with it for the mains and center at a minimum.

A used Denon receiver is what I would look at next. A good quality used DVD player would be last.

I would consider a Denon DVD-3800 with all the patches installed (this is what I use). By that time you should be able to get one of these for $200 to $300.

But the problem is I have the Panasonic SC-HT900 which is a HTIB. So the receiver and dvd player is one unit and the speakers are all part of the same package. Could I get a new DVD player/receiver combo unit and connect that to my current speakers?

As a concept, Yes more than likely one could buy a new DVD/receiver combo, and use your current spakers, as long as the input impeadance is the same, and the speakers can handle the input power of the new receiver. My question is why would you. Especially considering most DVD/ receiver combos only come as part of an HTIB, and as such the spakers would be included.

So to answer your question, maybe. It all depends upon the combination used. If you use the same speakers though, more than likely you will not like the sound. Most HTIB spakers do not do the material justice.

I don't beleive another combo connected to the same speakers will improve anything much, if at all.

I agree with UMR

If you want to upgrade , start with the speakers.
