How to improve picture quality of Wii on my new 47" LCD

Kids got a Wii for Xmas and it looks poor on the TV using composite cable. The Wii menu, Wii sports, Mario Cart, and everything else appears pixelated. So bad that some of the smaller text in some of the games you can hardly read.

First we tried it on my parents 50" DLP Samsung, and it looks even worse now on our 47" Vizio LCD TV (SV-470XVT).

Any ideas? Will switching over to Component cable do anything or are there any other suggestions? It's hurting my eyes. We use this TV for watching TV, DVD player and now the Wii too.

Switch to component video. The picture won't be perfect (can't do much else since the signal is only 480p), but it will still help a lot. You can get an inexpensive one at monoprice.
Monoprice.com has a very good price on the component connection cable for the Wii. I run mine into a xbr4, using it and it looks probably as good as the Wii can.

Just have fun and think with the outlook of Nintendo, graphics don't matter, enjoy these 1998 graphics with great gameplay.
Thanks!

Now I know I should not expect excellent quality, and I need component video to acheive the best video quality.
Yes, component or HDMI will both look as good as possible (I don't know if HDMI is available for the Wii)... composite is very bad. S-Video would also be a step up.

Like the others pointed out, the Wii is not a HD gaming system like the 360 or PS3, they will provide you with better graphics. The 360 actually costs less than the Wii now, which is a good deal, considering it has many times the power.

Good luck!

I bought my daughter a wii for Christmas and went ahead and bought the component cable to go with it. I bought the one made by Nintendo, so I'm sure I paid more than I had to, but it was kind of a last minute thing to get the wii, so I just tried to get everything at once at Best Buy since I stood out in the cold from 6:30 am until 8:00 one Sunday morning to get it!

Anyway, I never tried the composite cable, but with the component cable connected to my daughter's 26" Westinghouse LCD TV it looks very, very good - considering it is just 480p. I can't remember if there is a seperate setting for it in the wii game to enable it, but when using the component output it will do 480p as opposed to 480i.
