I currently use MakeMKV to rip my blu-rays, no issues whatsoever with this. But, I have a copy of Lord of the Rings that is split over 2 discs. Is there a way to join the 2 files? I am not sure if it can be done with MakeMKV, or if I would need additional software.

The other piece is that I am not sure if at the end of part 1, where it says "Insert Disc 2" is part of the main movie track, or if that is something separate. If it turns out that is part of the main movie, is there anyway to also remove that when joining the 2 parts?

Thanks.

Thanks for posting the link. I assume I download one of the non AMD links right?

amd64 is the same as x86_64 or x64 meaning it is 64 bit.

i386 is 32 bit.

What are you using for a media player? With XBMC you can just keep both MKVs in the same movie folder and add .cd1 or .cd2 to the last part of the file name before .mkv and it will play the files in sequence (without any "insert disk 2" message) and read it as one movie. So no need to actually join the files if you don't want to.

So I'm playing around with mkvmerge but having trouble figuring out how to actually join 2 mkv files together.

Following this guide I still am not clear how to go about joining 2 movies, like The Lord of the Rings Fellowship of the Ring Part 1 & 2.

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to use ADD or APPEND? And how does the audio work? When I made the 2 files joied I got a single file that was double in size but when I played it in MPC-HC it only played the 1st part.

Any easy suggestions?

I've always used the APPEND function. I made no changes to the selections of the independent streams (audio, video, subs), and then renamed the output file. Plays fine for me in XBMC and VLC straight through. I don't know how much easier it can get!
