How to open DVD's on HD with MCE ?

642 Views 11 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  krisl19
I'm running Windows MCE 2005 and couldn't find a way to launch DVD's stored on harddrive. So I have to switch to Sonic Player every time. Is it possible in MCE ? and how ? Thanks.

I play mine through MCE. I rip in file mode to hard drive which created the VIDEO_TS folder with all the files in it. I use the MyMovies plugin to catalog and import coverart and they play just fine in MCE. It also works if I go through MyVideos and browse to the MediaServer holding all my movies. I am using nVidia PureVideo decoders which may be the reason I can play them.

I have a Dell system and believe it uses PowerDVD as decoder by default. How can I link my Sonic decoder to MCE ?
Are you having trouble playing the files or finding a way to launch them?

If you can launch but it won't play check your dvd decoder.

If you can't launch it or can't find them. Use My Movies plug in. It integrates with MCE and does exactly what you want.

Couldn't find a way to launch them. Will try My Movies. Thanks.

Just moticed that I don't have "My Movie" on the list. How can I add this plugin ?
Wont let me post a url yet but the link to the My Movies plugin.

Search google for "my movies". Second link

If you rip the DVD as an ISO file, you can use Daemon-tools to mount it as a virtual DVD drive. Then it will play as normal in MCE.

You can get daemon-tools from here: http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/announcements.php
My Movies is the way to go. It's an excellent program. A new version just came out yesterday 1.55.

Do I still need to use Daemon tools with v. 1.55?
how did you rip the movies? File mode or in ISO format?

if you ripped them in file mode, you can just go to the videos section of MCE, click on the " i " button on your remote (the info button), then go to add a directory, then just add the directory that you ripped the movies too, this will then allow you to open up the movie directly in MCE dvd player.

Well, the movie plays, but whenever I open MCE, I get the "insert disc" error. I then have to restart as the error message will not go away. Awesome.
