Buy a replacement box and packing from the manufacture. Make sure the batten is secured -- not flopping around.
Hi,

If you can't get a box, use bubble-wrap - and plenty of it. Buy or make a sticker with "fragile / handle with care" on it.

Make sure the corners are properly protected.

Last but not least, get insurance for your shipment. It's only a percentage of the value, but is well worth it. Check in advance whether your packaging meets minimum requirements, so you don't lose out if a problem does happen.

Good luck,

I would assume that the original packaging should suffice, if still intact. Nevertheless and to second Otto's point, insured shipping is a must.

Along those lines, I was wondering if you guys had found a reasonably prized way (carrier/freighter) to ship those oversized and heavy items like screens. I have currently a 110" Stewart Firehawk motorized Electriscreen for sale but the shipping quotes I have gotten thus far have been rather high.

Umm...not to be dumb, but you can't just craig's list it locally and require them to pick it up? It limit's your target audience...or you could always make the buyer pay shipping.

You are correct. However, if shipped, freight charges incur, which simply add up to the overall cost of the screen. Therefore I am interested in a (reliable) carrier that charges low(er) rates than the up to $300 I got quoted thus far for shipping insured within the lower 48.

When sellers do this, they can lose 90% of their buyers right off the bat .. a lot of sellers put their items up for sale "pickup only" and 3 months later, the listing is still there at 1/2 the price

So true. If you really want to get rid of this your going to have to find a box.
