How to play Atmos via Remux rip on a Vizio P55-F1 native video player?

I have recently set up an Atmos sound bar system (Vizio SB36512) to a 2018 Vizio P55-F1 TV. While I have read there are tons of problems with this sound bar, I'm giving it a 30 day trial to see if I happened to get a good one.

The main reason I wanted Atmos was for Blu Ray Remux rips played from USB thumb drive to the TV's native media player. I understand that the TV's media player can't do TrueHD, but rather DD+. I have tried downloading a couple different Remux movies that stated they had Atmos. Every time the audio came back as "Dolby Audio-DD". To make sure I was able to even get Atmos from the native media player I downloaded a couple demo vids from the Dolby website and put them on the USB thumb drive. The media player played those files in Atmos (green light indicating Atmos lit up on the sound bar). The audio track for that showed "Dolby Atmos-DD+". So obviously the media player can play Atmos, I just need to know what kind of Remux rips will play it. What should I be looking for in the files name that signifies the audio is DD+ and not TrueHD? Do they even exist?

I've been told Shield TV will play TrueHD Atmos through Kodi, but really don't want to go that route unless it really is the only way to get Atmos from Remux rips.

You will not be able to do this with your current setup. The TV will decode the TrueHD Atmos stream to DD and strip the Atmos meta data, then pass that via ARC to the soundbar. The demo vids you have are DD+ and can be passed via ARC to the soundbar, keeping Atmos.

Your only solution would be to get an external media player, like a Shield, and connect it to the soundbar directly. This is assuming the soundbar can decode TrueHD and can then pass 4k HDR (if you have UHD rips) to the tv.

That sounds correct. I'd wait for the new Shield too, but in the mean time, you should be able to test it by using a computer or laptop and connect it to the soundbar. Then play a video with a player that will bitstream the audio.

I'm sorry, you are going to have to explain a bit more on that if you don't mind, I'm a newb ahha. I have a macbook, so what player should I test it with? Only player I currently use is VLC. Do you mean to play a Remux rip on the computer and HDMI it to the sound bar?

Yes, I'm saying you can try to play the Remux rip on the computer, plugged into the soundbar with HDMI. VLC should be ok, as long as you find the setting to either bitstream or passthrough audio.

I've tried playing Remux's on VLC before and they choke out after a couple seconds. I don't know if it's the size of the file or the fact that it's 4k and HDR that causes it. I haven't ever really paid attention to the audio side of it so I'll give it a go. Thank you for your help!
