Hello friends.

I ordered an Onkyo HT-S3500 Home Theater

And I also have a Optoma HD131Xe projector

The thing is I have basic coaxial cable TV, one of this cables entering trought my window:

I cant have a Digital Cable box at my place so I wanted to know is there is any way to connect my TV to the Home Theater or Projector to watch basic Cable TV on the Projector. I dunno if I can buy by myself some kind of digital box to convert the signal from the coaxial cable to HDMI or some other way like coaxial to RCA or something?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Nope. That device is designed to hook up something like a video game or DVD player to a TV that has no video input, by taking the baseband video (red/white/yellow) FROM the game or device and sending it to a TV on channel 3 or 4.

You probably need a cable company supplied box (subscription + appropriate fees) that best matches the type of TV that you have.

If by some rare chance you still have an analog basic cable feed, then an old fashioned VCR would act as a tuner to convert the coax signal to video (red/white/yellow) and that would connect to your projector and A/V system. If you have digital cable then the device that "Ratman" suggested would work but if the signal is encrypted (sooner or later it will be) then you will need a Cablecard for it or a Cable supplied box.

Thanks Ratman. But that device its a little expensive since it have lot of features like wifi, streaming, digitial functions, etc. that I would not need (since I already have them at other devices). I would really like a simple solution like a Coaxial to RCA adaptor/cable or something like that,

I have that very old analog cable from my company (3rd world here) like the 3rd picture on my first post, thats what comes from my window and used to go to my already sold TV.

Ain't gonna work.....

you need a tuner of some sort whether it be ATSC (OTA/antenna) or QAM for cable.

Or... if you are a cable subscriber, rent a DTA or cable box.

That's just a coax cable.... "new world" uses the cable for digital and high-definition.

Again... you need a tuner of some sort.

Someone from your country could probably help you better.

If you have analog TV service, then you will need an analog tuner to tune the signal, so that it can be fed into the projector.

Without knowing all that information NO ONE will be able to help you.

Ok its coaxial cable, it can support digital channels if I pay for them, I also can rent a box but the service its very expensive and honestly I dont need it, I'm pretty fine with basic cable, it fills my TV needs (I watch very little TV anwyays).

So do you guys know any tunner wich have a coaxial input and RCA outputs? blueiedgod idea of a VHS/VCR sounds interesting...

EDIT: Whoa! maybe this?

Bleh, box says Convert your digital broadcast to your analog TV and I think I need the opposite haha, wonder if still would work...

The iView, Homeworx, and other similar incarnations of the same device are digital only. They won't tune analog.

Analog cable is going the way of the dodo. It has a QAM tuner, so it will tune "in the clear" digital channels.

What your cable company sends "in the clear", though, is another can of worms. Might just be the networks and QVC, if that.

You may also look into a DVD recorder that would have analog and QAM tuners, but it won't be in HD.

That wasn't my idea, but that is a good suggestion.

First, are you sure you can receive the signal without paying for it? Here, you can't, since it is encrypted. And you can only decrypt it when you pay for the service.

Besides, what you are asking is theft.

I think he means he has basic cable service, not just internet, since he said he used to have a TV.

Yes, I mean, I receive basic cable (I pay for it), i can rent a digital box which is more expensive, but I really dont need it and dont want to pay extra if is not worth for me.

BTW, I found a very old VHS at my warehouse, which we used when we were child and it was supposed to be broken (since we accidentally dropped it on the ground and cracked it), after cleaning all the dust I plug it (it had like 10 years of being stored) and all the lights turned on and even the VHS cassete inside were doing forward and rewind normally (hehe nostalgic sounds). It have antena input and RCA outputs and I remember we used to plug cable TV on it and control the channels with the controls it have. So I suppose I found my solution already thanks to zaphod7501 suggestion :) Only thing left is to wait for my Onkyo Home Theater to get to my country (some 2-3 weeks zzzz) I'll tell you what happens then. Thanks a lot for all of your advice! =)

It'll work fine for a tuner as long as you have analog and it's compatible with the signal.
