So I was hoping to gather some feedback from the pros and experienced hobbyist here. I have 3 amps laying around that were used in car applications. The one amp is rated at 1600watts but is realisticaly 300 watts and I would like to use it in my home theater application. I tried to use a 12v power transformer the same thing you would use to power regular house hold items and just spliced the connection. When the bass hits the amp seems to draw to much power and nothing happens. I other words the lights get dimmer on the amp with the more power drawn by the sub.

So without having to purchase an overpriced power inverter, Is there any other way to power this device for home application use?

Nope. As far as I know there is no other way. When you get to that price you may a well just get an ep2500 with 2000 watts for less than $300 shipped.

There have been rumors of people using the 12V lines off of a larger computer power supply. I'm not sure of the results however, but in theory it could work.

Realistically, a large deep cycle battery to provide power for transients, and a battery charger to keep it charged.....

Looks great in your living room!
