Sounds like a dumb question.

I got a pair of energy c-50 speaker and this stand . The stand comes with 3 different connection plate:

- a vertical one, which doesn't work because the screw in the speaker is too large, and it said it required a "macromount" which is nowhere to be found in Canada.

- A small plate with self adhesive. the ahesive doesn't look very strong.

- A larger plate with some rubber thing that can aborb vibration, looks like the speaker can slip off the stand easily.

None of them look very reliable, as someone careless can easily known down the speaker... is there any alternative that does not involve lots of $$$?

The velcro can work, if you don't mind sticking something to your speaker. Personally, I prefer not to.

You can buy rubber bumpers from walmart, home depot, lowes, ect. and stick them on the top plate of the stand. The speakers won't slide off unless you bump into them.

Another option, if you want something more stable:

It's harmless to the finish in the sense it won't peel off vinyl or wood veneer, but I have read it can leave a stain, particularly with real wood veneer. It holds very well though, yet is easy to peel off of the speaker. I've never had it stain a finish, but I haven't used it for extended time periods.

FWIW, the gentleman I bought speakers from had used it for almost 2 years and when he took it off the speaker you'd never have known it was there...of course these were Ascend Sierra's which use a bamboo cabinet, so the results may have been different with a stained wood veneer.

These aren't $5000 speakers that will cause you $$$ lost if you put a hole in them. Put in some short wood screws and you'll know they ain't coming off!

They only need to go in about 1/2" to secure them. Thats what the slots in the stands are for.

If you don't want to drill, stick or glue anything to your speaker, get some Blu Tack by Bostik at a hardware store. It will keep the speaker and stand together but will also come off clean. It's like putty.
