I have 2 Cerwin Vega XLS 12 speakers as shown on their site: http://www.cerwinvega.com/home-audio/floorstanding-speakers/xls-12.html

I used to run them on a Sony 7.1 105W RMS/Channel AV receiver, and I really didn't know what I was doing. The receiver seems to have finally died.

I went to Best Buy and I was advised to buy a Pioneer SC-63 shown on their site: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Home/AV-Receivers/Elite+Receivers/SC-63

I hooked it up, and the bass isn't hitting a 1/10 as hard as the Sony. I tried adjusting Bass/Treble, and I couldn't even find where to do it. I read the online manual (no physical manual), and it says the options may or may not be available depending on the current settings. It didn't go on to explain what settings I need in order to get the adjustments. I don't really know if this receiver is even built to run these without a pre-amp. The speakers are 150W RMS/300W peak, 6 ohms.

I'm not going to keep the Pioneer, because for someone who knows little about receivers, it's WAY to difficult to use. I am looking for the BEST solution for these two speakers. Not the best equipment, but the best solution for these speakers (as I understand Cerwin Vegas aren't TOP speakers). Any ideas which receiver/pre-amp or anything would be best to run these speakers?

you need a separate amplifier to get these bad boys to their full potential. running them with a receiver just doesn't give them justice. visit www.emotiva.com . the xls12 will really shine with emotiva xpa1 monoblocks or xpa2. if you can afford the emotiva xpr2 then that would be awesome! or you can ebay for 2 channel or stereo amplifiers. that's how i got my adcom GFA555ii. but emotiva is much more cheaper compared to any brands out there.
