I don't believe MS pays (or offers other financial incetives/discounts) for any of it beta programs, UTV included. What an end user expects out of beta testing (in general) is:


- early access to potential new features

- the ability to help drive quality on the product


Obviously, that benefit is enough for enough people to sign up for MS's beta tests. For others, that's not enough, so they'll most likely not sign up for the beta.

The UTV team is no longer looking for non-Microsoft beta testers at this time. Don't know if this means they are getting close to product release or not. I think DirecTV has to run it through its paces before they release it to everyone.
