629 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  nick2003
Hi all, I live in a basement and am so tired of hearing the people upstairs complain that my home theater is to loud  so i want to soundproof it so i can play my system whenever i want. The room has concrete all the way around and a window. just the ceiling is where the sound is coming threw i think. What do you guys recommend for my situation? Thanks in advance for any help.

Lots of money and time! Seriously, read some of the threads in this forum for similar situations/needs. Once you get an idea of your options, you'll have more opinions than you can shake a stick at.
agreed, or do a search, keywords like insulation, acoustic treatment, linacoustic, ceiling etc... should get you on the right path!
Thanks, I searched for sound proofing before and nothing came up so i figured there wasnt anything.
Effective soundproofing becomes very expensive very quickly. It can also be a TON of work to achieve.

If you need a quick and inexpensive solution, I'd suggest a good set of headphones. Couple that with the use of Bass Shakers in your seating, and you will have a pretty good audio experience without bothering the neighbors.

Good luck,

Dwigt
Do you have the option to do construction? If so, you can help the situation.
There are about 501 threads on this very topic. Read, my friend, read!
Build a "ROOM WITHIN A ROOM"...nothing you can do will beat this method....iif you have the space. I dug deep to give me the headroom to do this...No regrets!

Agreed. For comedies, dramas, standard fare they'll never hear a thing.

However . . .

Anything that "explodes" is going to tough to contain. Action movies sound like distant thunder in the rest of my house and really big stuff (like the Bridge at Kazad Dum from Fellowship of the Rings) will rattle the house!

Best advice: move out of the basement!
