As far as I know Apple doesn't currently offer 4K content and the Apple TV doesn't have hardware capable of outputting 4K. You'll need Sony's 4K streaming device if you want to watch 4K content. Currently its really the only device with a decent set of 4K videos and movies/TV shows worth watching. There are other 4K streaming devices but none of them seem to have access to quality content worth watching. Alternatively you can buy or build a PC if you want to watch 4K clips from YouTube or video generated from consumer video recorders (GoPro's or Drones for example).

How to stream 4K?
I have a Sony 600Es projector and I am trying to find out how to stream 4K.
I have an Apple TV, but it currently can't stream 4K as far as I know.
I am in the process of getting a new A/V switcher that can do 4K, but that won't do me any good unless there's a way to get 4K material to it.
Thoughts? Thanks.

Does anyone know if Amazon offers anything to stream 4K?
Doesn't seem right that Netflix and Amazon are streaming 4K yet no way to get it to a projector where it would make the most sense
to get a benefit from 4K!

Yes, Amazon has UHD streaming movies, TV shows, etc. However, currently it's only available via a UHD Smart TVs with the UHD enabled Amazon App. (I have it on my Vizio P70). There are no set top 4K/UHD players yet that support the Amazon UHD streaming service. And Netflix 4K service is similar in that only a handful of devices offer the 4K streams.
They're probably in some exclusive licensing deal with Samsung to only provide UHD to them for some period of time. We're talking about a library of native 4K content (hollywood movies and TV shows), not upscaled 1080p blu-ray. So us smart guys with expensive projectors can't realistically watch any 4K! I don't think there are a plethora of devices that can output 4k to a projector either. There's almost more content than devices and that's not saying much. The Sony has gotten crappy reviews and I haven't found any other streaming devices for 4k.And what about 4K content? I guess all we can do as we replace aging equipment is make sure each piece passes 4K.
You honestly shouldn't be surprised by this. Did you do your due diligence before you purchased the projector? Not knowing there was a lack of UHD content leads me to believe you didn't. You are, in every sense of the phrase, an early adopter. There is no consumer UHD format yet and the best estimate from current reports is the end of this year we'll see the first player and set of movies released in the new UHD format. Regarding devices that output a 4K signal; yes there are a ton of them. Most 2012+ PCs can easily do this. As far as 3rd party media players go the list is actually fairly long. Most of the UHD/4K content you see out there is H.264 so many of these devices have no issues decoding and outputting the signal. HDMI 1.4 and DP 1.2 have supported 4K output for many years now so it's not surprising that there are actually a ton of devices and computers that support it. The Sony 4K media streamer is your best option currently if you want hollywood-type stuff (Triple A title movies and TV Shows + 4K Netflix). There's really no other service that currently offers more quality content out there.So us smart guys with expensive projectors can't realistically watch any 4K! Most companies are waiting for full spec HDMI 2.0 (18gbps throughput) with HDCP 2.2 chipsets. There is currently only one chipset out that I'm aware of (from silicon image) and it was just recently released 6-8 months ago so we're only just seeing devices with this technology implemented now. In the next 12 months we're going to see the UHD Blu-ray finalized, UHD Blu-ray players and UHD Blu-ray discs, more devices that support full spec HDMI 2.0 with full HDCP 2.2 support and many 3rd party devices, like the splitter you're looking for, come out.I was also surprised to find that even Monoprice does not have a 4k switcher either!

Most AV Receivers and Pre/Pros out right now don't meet the full HDMI 2.0 spec with HDCP 2.2 support, but many of these companies are giving customers a promise of a free upgraded motherboard next year to get these devices "future proof" and have 100% compatibility with UHD Blu-ray.
So right now you just need to sit tight. Within 12 months I will guarantee you that you'll have more access to quality UHD content and other CE devices compatible with these UHD sources. You just need to realize and accept that you're an early adopter and these are just the normal things early adopters normally go through. When 1080p blu-ray was announced there were already owners of 1080p displays and they went through the same "content-less" experience you're going through now. Content will come, just be patient.
Amazon's UHD streaming is not exclusive to Samsung smart UHDTVs as it's also offered by Vizio and Sony smart UHDTVs. Hopefully support will also show up in an outboard 4K/UHD video player this year. For example, perhaps the upcoming (May 2015 release ?) 4K/UHD version of the Nvidia Shield box (see links below) might eventually support Amazon UHD streaming service (even if not on day 1) along with its other 4K/UHD gaming and video (e.g., Netflix 4K) servicesThey're probably in some exclusive licensing deal with Samsung to only provide UHD to them for some period of time. It's my understanding that Silicon Image will begin shipping this spring the 18.0 Gbps HDMI 2.0 w/HDCP 2.2 chips needed for AVRs. So we should be seeing several new AVRs, including moderate priced models, by year's end that support this capability and many more next year............

Yes, but in the mean time, newer Blu Rays have never looked as good as they do on a VW600. Enjoy your projector while you wait for more 4K sources !!

I did my due diligence on the projector and the lack of content, but not on the hardware to pass a 4K signal. I knew there was very little content available. I didn't check the availability of a switcher or a streaming device, but didn't think too much about it because I wasn't hot to trot 4K at the time. I knew it would be a while before I started pursuing being able to project 4K. I spent the extra bucks on the 4K projector so that when 4K WAS available, I could take advantage of it.
Recently, I needed a new switcher and found they were available, but not as readily as I thought some 5 months after my purchase. That's when it dawned on me, DUH, if I get a 4K switcher, how am I going to get the 4K stream from Amazon or Netflix to the switch-box?
As the poster above said, I do enjoy the picture the 600es projector puts out and don't really miss not having 4K right now. Hell, my last projector cost me $15K ten years ago, and I loved it even though it was 720P . I never even bought a blu ray for it since a regular DVD looked better than than the local theater anyway. I got ten years of great use out of my Infocus 777 before it died so I got my money's worth. Going from 720P to even just up-scaled 4K, however, was glorious, and I finally got a Blu-Ray player.
Thanks to all here for your input and your knowledge base I've used over the years.
