Continued from an option on previous thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...hreadid=144918

The purpose is to discuss how to implement a 7.1 DTS system WITH THE HTPC DOING THE DTS processing and outputing separated outputs to drive the channels. Ideally we would want a soundcard that has 8 digital outputs going straight to amps driving speakers.

1. What soundcards would support this option and have software that would work with popular softare DVD players?

2. What amps are reasonable priced that actually have digital inputs?

So far from previous thread we have the following information:

-WinDVD 4.0 can mix up to 8 channels with Dolby ProLogic II and Intervideo ICE

Why 8 digital outputs? I'm sure such a card exists, but no one here has tried it. On the other hand, there definitely are people who use the Delta 1010 series with 8 analog outputs.

I was thinking digital outputs would greatly reduce noise/interference from the massive hunk of electronics that is the modern day PC. Isn't it a bad idea to do analog out of the pc for good quality audio?
