I wasn’t sure which forum to put this up on. I decided here because I’m assuming (and yes, I know that assumption is the mother of all f*** ups) that they’ll be using a DILA. Can’t imaging that anything else would put out enough light. I’m sure someone will start to go a long diatribe about how this is just a toy for the truly rich and all they’re doing is showing off, blah, blah… But if someone didn’t push the envelope we wouldn’t have all these new projectors or this forum.

This reminds me of the post recently from ABigPicture about his pool party where he had his projector on a screen outdoors. It probably wasn't quite this polished, but it was the same idea.


It's too bad they don't have the projector/screen specs. It would make and interesting read.

For that type of display (and the kind of money that is involved) i would say that you are looking at either a pair of Barco ELM 12Ks (or equivalent) which are about 150K a piece, or a Lighthouse 5mm LED wall. If you have not seen the latest generation of low pitch LED walls, they are truly stunning. And for out by the pool, it would be tremendous.

The view obstruction is the only thing that doesn't make sense?! If they only watch it at night there wouldn't be any real view anyway.

One of the applications for the Infocus LP530 I just ordered is out by the pool in the summer at night. I already have a permanent outdoor sound setup, and an ideal place for a screen between those speakers. No it won't have any rear channels, but it will be better than any other outdoor theater I have been to. I have three concrete decks around a negative edge pool from which the screen will be viewable above the vanishing edge of the pool.
