Some observations on using my HDX 18 laptop for Blu-Ray playback... comments, please:

1. The black levels in the included HP video player are very high. The screen itself is capable of much blacker black, as shown by the dark black borders around the movie frame.

Question: is there any way to adjust the black levels within the HP video player? Or is therean alternate video player with more controls?

2. I'm not able to play a Blu-Ray movie on my external monitor, which is a Samsung 240T from about 2001. I'm using an HDMI to DVI converter. The error message relates apparently to copy protection.

Question: What kind of external monitor will work?

Question: The movie plays perfectly well for a few seconds before the error message shows up, so this seems to be a licensing/copy protection issue, rather than a hardware problem.

3. Video stops completely, freeze framed, although audio continues, and after about 10 seconds, the video picks up again. This happened 2-3 times during Casino Royale.

Question: is this possibly related to a layer change?

Thanks for your help!

I am receiving the same copy protection warning. I just dont get it. If I bought the Blue Ray disk and can play it on my laptop, why not on my 56" Samsung DLP?

Any thoughts?
